How to make a child safeguarding policy applicable, likeable, and child-friendly? – A case study from Hungary

A Talk by Barbara Németh and Anna Boukydis

About this Talk

Hintalovon Foundation, a Budapest-based child rights NGO, has been working with and for children since 2016. As their Child Participation Program were evolving, they faced many situations that challenged their Child Safeguarding Policy and practice. The changing activities and resources, the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as the tense political atmosphere raised new questions about what serves children’s safety and motivated the regular review of their CSP. Children’s continuous feedback, the training of staff and their experiences as consultants shaped their approach on how to meet the standards and fit to the reality at the same time.

The presentation introduces the development of the child safeguarding policy of Hintalovon Foundation, focusing on the safe and meaningful involvement of their child volunteers. It shares the lessons learnt about the risks of over- and underregulating, and their efforts to develop an applicable policy and a likeable practice. In addition, a youth participant will talk about how children are informed about the CSP and share her views about its practical implications. Tips for organizations will be also summarized.

After the presentation, join this speaker at the live Q&A sessions that follow shortly after.
