About this speaker

Abdulkarim Taraja has over 6 years of experience in communication, media and Public Relations in Kenya who has worked in different private and public sectors and who uses storytelling to create an impact through writing and mentorship.

Coming from humble family and marginalized community in Kenya, Taraja faced a lot of challenges including hardship in accessing education. This gave him a reason to utilize any opportunity given to pursue education with the hope that one day, he will talk about to his community. 

True to his word, he founded Elgon Centre for Education in 2019 to promote access to education, reproductive health and mitigating effects of alcohol and substance abuse among young people that affects education in his community and beyond. 

His major work is working with schools to mentor learners on education issues- career guidance, life skills, leadership skills and behaviour change. He is passionate about rights and child protection and safeguarding. 

He is also an upcoming youth leader in Kenya and Africa and an alumnus of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for the Young African Leaders 2022 having studied Leadership in Public Management at Syracuse University in New York.

He also works as Communications Officer at the Civil Registration Services (CRS) in Kenya.
